Skeletal anchorage

Some tooth misalignments require the most stable point of contact possible to attach an orthodontic appliance and perform the desired tooth movement. Within a short, painless treatment, two pins can be placed on the palate to be used as an anchoring element for the duration of the tooth movement. After the treatment they can be reduced within a few minutes. The pins do not fuse firmly to the bone and are therefore ideal for temporary use. Crowded teeth can thus be resolved more easily and predictably, and larger tooth movements, e.g. when closing gaps or after extractions, can be closed reliably and in a shorter time. The orthodontic appliance used for this purpose lies on the palate and is not visible.
