RESEARCH FOCUS

We are an innovative, diverse team that researches with motivation, joy and passion. We stand for excellent, clinically relevant basic research with the goal of deciphering the causes of cranio- and orofacial syndromes.

We use state-of-the-art sequencing methods in combination with transgenic mouse models to visualize and specifically investigate the complexity of facial and tooth formation in its entirety. One focus is on the development of the palate. In particular, we are interested in the question of which signals and interactions are necessary for physiological development. Another focus of our research is postnatal tooth development.

Here we aim to understand how the different cell types communicate with each other to enable the development and maintenance of teeth. For our research, we use single cell sequencing in conjunction with immunohistochemistry, as well as histological and molecular biological studies of transgenic mice. Our results will help to better understand the complexity of cranio- and orofacial development and may help in the future treatment of patients with cranio- and orofacial anomalies.
