Craniomandibular Dysfunctions

Indications of craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) may include pain and movement restrictions in the jaw, face and or neck area. The symptoms can occur for a short time, but can also last for a longer period of time. Causes of CMD can be increased muscle tone (e.B. triggered by pressing and grinding of the teeth), wear and tear in the area of the temporomandibular joint (arthrosis) or acute inflammatory events within the temporomandibular joint (artrhitis). The treatment of CMD is usually long-term and complex, i.e. several therapy options are combined (e.B. splint therapy, physiotherapy and drug therapy). Before that, a comprehensive diagnosis is important to find out the right cause of the complaints.
