Mental health promotion in Brazilian graduate students: online support group on a pandemic context

The Covid-19 pandemic's expected negative impacts on mental health have been broadly broadcasted. Due to the pandemic, students had their face-to-face academic activities interrupted and/or changed to online format and experienced an interruption of their social life and support. Thus, the concerns in relation to students' mental health increased and mental health promotion programs need to be developed. Due to the necessity of social distancing and quarantine, online interventions are preferable than face-to-face activities. Online programs are as effective as traditional face-to-face interventions, especially to young people. Moreover, the internet may be a useful tool to implement mental health promotion interventions to a larger number of people.

In Brazil, e-mental health is a very recent practice contrasting to other countries. Accordingly, the aim of this research is to investigate the impact of an online support group program tailored to graduate students of a Brazilian public university in the pandemic context as a strategy to promote mental health.

Besides, through an online survey, it also aims to investigate mental health, social and emotional well-being and perceived burdens of University students of the Federal University of Parana during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We expect the present investigation to contribute to mental health promotion in graduate students, with studies on online support groups, and to the awareness of the university community to create or expand mental health actions in higher education institutions.
