Inflammation in obesity

Head of the working group: Dr. troph. Ronald Biemann

Research interests

Inflammation and hormonal imbalance plays a major role in the initiation and progression of diabetes associated disorders such as chronic kidney disease and metabolic syndrome. We investigate the interplay of different molecules that are dysregulated in diabetes and obesity. With focus on the intercellular communication between endothelial and epithelial cells, we aim to decipher mechanisms of cell-cell interaction in a defined environment under static and flow conditions using microfluidic approaches. Aim is to identify novel therapeutic strategies for prevention or treatment of diabetes associated disorders.
