Project

AMPEL was introduced in 2018 and has been supporting nursing and medical staff in patient care ever since. The system improves the availability and weighting of medical information through automated notifications. AMPEL utilises a range of tools, from simple calculations to complex AI models, and monitors all necessary data in real-time.

AMPEL achieves patient safety and diagnostic innovation through the application of guideline-based if-then rules and machine learning modelsAMPEL is currently utilised as an AI infrastructure for both research and routine care. In mid-2024, the core of AMPEL will be further developed as an open-source software. This allows the collaborative development and expansion of the non-profit software. The complete transparency and traceability of the AI solution provides a significant advantage for all clinicians.

Three key figures about the AMPEL: Over 5 years of experience in clinical application, over 10 scientifically based models and over 6000 patients alerted per year

Features of AMPEL

  • Proven increase in patient safety
  • Real-time monitoring at any time of day
  • >10 scientifically tested algorithms
  • Integration of AI algorithms (e.g. machine learning)
  • Multimodal notifications via telephone, email and PC
  • Historized traceability of all data streams
  • Developed from the clinic for the clinic
  • Direct transfer of research into routine care
  • Full interoperability and transparency through Open Source

The German acronym AMPEL translates to analysis and reporting system for improving patient safety through real-time integration of laboratory findings, but AMPEL can now evaluate far more than just laboratory findings. The interoperable in-house development of Leipzig University Hospital AöR is constantly connecting new data sources and opening up new use cases. AMPEL is developed from the clinic for the clinic, because in the end it is the clinical needs that are decisive.

The completed project phase 2018-2023 can be tracked separately at www.ampel.care. We would like to thank XANTAS AG for the successful collaboration and transfer of the logo.
