International skilled workers in a health profession

If you are seeking employment as a health professional at UKL, our requirements are as follows:

• an international professional qualification in a health profession
• a residence permit for Germany
• a certificate of language proficiency to level B2 for German, as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference
• ideally, professional experience
• a valid licence to practise​

If you are a qualified nurse, you may have to sit an examination at Leipzig University Hospital to demonstrate your level of proficiency. In specific cases, you may also have to attend an adaptation training course.

If you are still living abroad, you will need to apply for a combined visa and work permit from your local German embassy or consulate. You will also need to meet the above criteria.

EU citizens do not require a visa or work permit, but they will still need to fulfil all of the conditions listed above.

• a CV in German in tabular form
• into German translated and officially certified copies of your professional certificate, transcript and birth certificate
• B2 certificate or C1/C2 certificate of German language proficiency

• where possible: your licence to use your professional title, a notice of assessment, or a copy of your application for recognition of a professional qualification obtained abroad
