Internships and Medical Trainings

Medical specialist training (Facharzt-Weiterbildungen)

University of Leipzig Medical Center offers courses for doctors wishing to qualify as specialists. They select an area of specialism and are then generally assigned a senior physician or specialist as their tutor, who supervises them throughout their entire course of training. The tutor will provide the student with feedback at least twice a year and discuss their personal development with them, and how it should continue in the future. A rotation plan ensures that they gain experience in all the areas required for their training as a medical specialist.

Additional information is available on the German website of the UKL.

Clinical traineeship (Famulatur)

The clinical traineeship is a two to three-month unpaid internship, which includes contact with patients (no remuneration paid). If you wish to complete a clinical traineeship with us, you must be matriculated as a medical student and have a good knowledge of German (Level C1).

You must make your own travel arrangements. You will require a health insurance policy which is valid in Germany for the entire period of your stay. We also recommend that you take out personal liability insurance.

Unfortunately, University of Leipzig Medical Center is unable to provide or arrange places in hostels, etc. For more information about accommodation, please visit the City of Leipzig website.
