Institute History

The Institute of Midwifery Science and Interprofessional Perinatal Medicine at Leipzig University was officially founded on 28 August 2024. It combines the dual study programme Bachelor of Science Midwifery with further education and research in midwifery science. The collaboration between various professional groups involved in the care of women and families is intended to strengthen highly qualified training and obstetric care. The first cohort will complete the now accredited course in autumn 2024 after seven semesters. In the future, the institute will also offer courses for the recognition of professional qualifications for midwives from third countries.​​
