20.06.2025 - Long Night of the Sciences
During the Long Night of Science, experience how midwives work with all their senses to ensure the well-being of mother and child. Feel, hear and see for yourself at our interactive station. Take the opportunity to talk to students and staff about studying midwifery, the fields of work and the challenges of the profession. In a presentation, you will learn everything you need to know about the placenta, an organ that is of central importance for the development of the foetus but often receives little attention. Why the placenta is so important for a physiological pregnancy and what role it plays in the birth will be explained in an understandable way.

Lecture: Placenta: More than just an organ
The placenta is much more than just a ‘supply organ’. It is the vital connection between mother and child. In this lecture, we will take a look at the development, structure and diverse functions of the placenta. We will also look at an often overlooked topic: the rituals with the placenta after birth. The lecture is aimed at anyone who would like to learn more about the biology of pregnancy and the customs associated with the placenta, whether out of medical interest, personal experience or curiosity.
