teaching and studying

At the Faculty of Medicine of Leipzig University, more than 3,500 students are enrolled in the study programmes Pharmacy, Midwifery, and Human Medicine and Dentistry as well as the postgraduate master programme "Clinical Research & Translational Medicine". Around 400 new students are enrolled each year in the winter semester.

The central mission of the Faculty of Medicine is to provide practical, patient-centred and science based training for tomorrow's physicians, dentists, and pharmacists. The faculty has created the Leipzig Skills Lab ("Lernklinik"), one of the most modern skill and simulation centres in Europe. It harbours around 200 simulators and phantoms, giving students and practitioners the chance to train in clinical and communicative skills across most medical specialities.

The Centre for Didactics in Medicine ensures high standards of medical training. Teaching staff are provided with methodological support, especially in the form of innovative teaching, learning and examination concepts. The faculty has also developed a series of initiatives to teach the skills of practicing medicine in rural areas. The "general practitioner class" is designed to raise the interest of students across sectors of medical care.

The constant improvement in teaching methods, the modern facilities and equipment, the location on campus with the University of Leipzig Medical Center offer a superb environment for studying medicine at the heart of a city that is vibrant, cosmopolitan and rich in culture.
