"I am implementing a bicentric clinical study that investigates the risk profile of ambulatory cancer patients to develop deep vein thrombosis of the lower and upper limb and / or pulmonary embolism. Together with the Department of Medical Oncology of the University Frederico II in Naples, Italy we are recruiting this study here in the University Cancer Center in Leipzig under the supervision of Prof. Florian Lordick. The recruitment goal is 800 patients. In addition to the purely clinical part we are implementing here in Leipzig, together with Dr. Tim Drogies from the Institute of Laboratory Medicine an accompanying program of serum / plasma factors that play a role in the pathogenesis of cancer-induced thrombophilia and that may help to predict the risk for venous thromboembolism in individual cancer patients."
